Hello! Things are going well for me... not so well for Calum. He's tired, "feels like crap" and is tired of juice. I feel like he's not getting enough calories, and if he drank more juice he'd feel better. He keeps talking about food and how much he misses it. He actually bought an Italian cookbook on the impulse buy shelf when we were checking out of the grocery store yesterday!
Frankly, I'm more motivated to not be fat than to start eating. I actually feel really good, aside from hunger, espescially late at night. But my stomach actually feels a lot better not having to digest food, as normally I feel pretty bloated and have an upset stomach almost daily.
I've lost another pound over the past two days so at the start of Day 5 I'm down to 134.6
Starting weight:
139.4
Current Weight:
134.6
Total weight lost over 4 days:
4.8 pounds
We keep going back and forth about whether we want to stick to it for 30 days or just juice during the day and eat a raw food meal at night. Personally, I think I want to do it for 30 days just to prove that I can break the cycle of comfort and nervous eating. Also, the weight loss is quicker and easier than on any other diet I've tried, and I'm getting way more quality nutrition than I ever have.
I juiced a cantaloupe today and it was AMAZING. So good. Then I made a cantaloupe/carrot juice with the leftovers. It would be good no matter what ratio of cantaloupe to carrot juice you use.
Have a great weekend!
Love and blessings,
Gina

Day 3
Yesterday was great... went for our weekly date to Calum's brother and sister-in-law's house to watch True Blood. Usually we bring a bottle of wine but yesterday we made strawberry-grape juice and brought that over in a wine bottle :) It was actually really good and it felt nice not drinking alcohol. I always feel so dehydrated and crappy afterwards.
Today I had a green juice then went to the gym. Now I'm drinking a watermelon juice and it is so refreshing. I am enjoying this fast so much now. I have so much more clarity and don't feel that "carb daze" that comes from eating so much sugar and processed food. I lost almost another half-pound, so that brings me down to 135.6 from a starting weight of 139.4. Almost 4 pounds after 2 days. Not bad. It's amazing how much bloating we have on our bodies. My ribs were protruding and my abs were more defined just from the loss of water retention.
Here's a recipe if you like green juices:
Enjoy!

Gina

Day 2
If I'm being honest, yesterday was TERRIBLE. I felt like giving up, I was so hungry; especially in the afternoon. I had about 4.5 pints of fruit and veggie juice by 6:00 pm and I felt like it wasn't enough. I felt like I was starving, but I think it was more of a psychological and emotional hunger rather than physical. When Calum got home around 9:00 pm he made me a pineapple juice and I felt much better. I started to get physically hungry again around 10:00 pm but the emotional resistance to the fast had passed at that point and I felt like I could do it.
Calum told me an Air Force quote, "Pain is just weakness leaving the body." After hearing that I felt like a baby for practically crying over one day of fasting and I felt a little more motivated.
Well, I'm glad I stuck to it, because the results have been big already. Calum lost 4.2 pounds, and I lost 3.4 pounds.
Gina
Day 1: 139.4 lbs.
Day 2: 136.0 lbs.
Calum
Day 1: 192.4
Day 2: 188.2
We slept for about 9 hours last night and I woke up hungry and thirsty and Calum woke up really low energy. We'll see what the day has to offer, but I feel confident that it will be better than yesterday.

Gina

Day 1
Hello! I'm Gina and my partner Calum and I have decided to do a juice fast. We watched a documentary called Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead about a man who drank only juice for 60 days to improve his health and quality of life and lose weight. We were totally inspired and decided this is something we need to do to lose weight and be our best, healthiest selves.
We started off by eating mainly fruits, veggies and proteins for two days prior to starting the fast and it sucked. I wanted to punch someone in the face because I wanted chocolate so bad! I was scrounging the house for something sugary and finally I found an almost empty jar of raw honey in the cupboard. I was scraping the sides of the jar with a spoon trying to get just a teaspoon to give me a fix and take the edge off of my cravings. It was a really pathetic sight and if anyone doesn't think junk food is addictive they're crazy.
Anyway, we took pictures in our bathing suits this morning so we could do weekly updates on our progress but our computer didn't want to upload them so we're going to upload them at a friend's house and should have them up by tomorrow night.
The good news is... I'm not craving sugar at all today! We went to the gym, then made our first juice:
You can't go wrong when mixing carrot and orange. It always tastes awesome! We're using an old juicer right now (Juiceman II) until we have an extra $150- $250 laying around for a new one but it's working fine. The one I want is the Breville BJE510XL Ikon 900-Watt Variable-Speed Juice Extractor that was used in the documentary and seemed to be really efficient and hold up really well.
For now I feel great but I'll let you know if by the end of the day I'm wanting to strangle someone :)

Gina

Calum
Height: 5'10"

You can't go wrong when mixing carrot and orange. It always tastes awesome! Our Overall Plan:
- 4-5 16oz glasses of fresh fruit and veggie juice per day for 30 days
- 4-5 8oz glasses of water per day
- herbal tea as needed
- 15 days of raw foods only following the 30 day juice fast
For now I feel great but I'll let you know if by the end of the day I'm wanting to strangle someone :)
